A word from the author of the Week of Bounty – Willie Crew

Someone once said, “Find a need, and meet it.” Truly this is what the Week of Bounty is all about.

There are so many needs around us. Most of the world lives in poverty and are in need of as much help as they can get. The Bible teaches that we are to be generous to the poor—that we are to care for them.

The Week of Bounty is a very simple way to show people who face difficult situations that Christians genuinely care. And more than that, it is an amazing way for the poor and needy to experience the love and care of our Lord Jesus! Who knows, they may then open their hearts to accept Him as personal Lord and Savior.

Just think about it, in our garages, houses and places of work there are many goods that are not used. For instance, building material, foodstuffs, an extra table or chair, clothing, bicycles, books—even Bibles—far too much to list here. Do you not agree that we have much that is not being used and that we could do without? The sum total of all these items could total millions of dollars.

What would happen if we mobilized thousands of churches around the world with their millions of members?  What would happen if they also collected their excess goods to help reach the poor and needy?

As the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, we should be far more active in meeting the needs of the poor.

Most of the time, we relate this to money. We collect money to give to either an individual or to a non-profit organization that distributes food and cares for the needs of the poor. Beyond that most people in the world feel that they have nothing more to give, save a few cents.

However, as with most things in life, the obvious goes right past us. We do not see it because we are so conditioned to our usual way of giving.

Put in the nutshell the Week of Bounty is:

  • Looking with purpose around you,
  • Finding all kinds of things that you don’t use or hardly ever use,
  • Making a deliberate decision to give to the needy,
  • Taking the goods to the church during a chosen Week of Bounty,
  • Distributing the goods to those in need in the shortest time possible.

Imagine what an incredible impact we would make in reaching the unreached people groups in the poor and needy regions of the world!

We dare not miss this unique moment to impact the lives of the poor and needy. Let’s join hands and together show the world that the Church of our Lord Jesus is alive, and well, willing to make a difference in a hurting world!!!!
