SEVEN SIMPLE STEPS for a Successful Week of Bounty

Objective: Through the efforts of local churches, members harness their potential economic power by giving their unused or excess goods lying idle in their houses and places of business to assist and uplift those that are needy in society.
Step 1. The local church makes a decision to run a Week of Bounty.

Step 2. Determine a date when you will run the Week of Bounty.

  • The preferred dates are the week immediately following the Global Day of Prayer during their 90 Days of Blessing. See www.globaldayofprayer.com
  • Each church can determine another date that would suite them better. Many run the Week of Bounty during the Week of Pentecost

Step 3. Recruit a small volunteer team to help with the sorting and distribution of the goods collected.

Step 4. Have people with needs in the church fill out a needs list well before the Week of Bounty.

Step 5. At least four weeks before the event, encourage the members of the local church to start looking in their homes and places of business and decide what they will bring to the Week of Bounty.

Step 6. Receive the goods during the Week of Bounty and distribute it with the help of the volunteers in the following way:

  • Meet the needs of those in the local church that completed a needs list.
  • Meet the needs of members of other churches in close proximity to the church.
  • Meet the needs of people in churches living in underprivileged areas by sending the goods to the partner church for distribution.
  • Supply the needs of the poor and needy that is served by community organizations.

Step 7. Make sure that all the goods that came in for the Week of Bounty are distributed within two weeks. Do not allow this project to become a burden to the church by letting it continue too long. This is very important!
